LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer (5-0-2, 3-0-0 GLVC) grabbed a home-opener victory on Sunday, defeating Missouri-St. Louis, 2-1. The Bearcats collected a third-straight Great Lakes Valley Conference win with scores by senior defender
Matteo Schubert and junior forward
James Martin, maintaining their unbeaten record on the campaign both in-league and overall. McKendree will remain at home next weekend, hosting Lewis and Indianapolis as both the Flyers and Hounds are unbeaten in-conference through this afternoon.
The Bearcats looked to stay on track in their first home contest of the season, hosting UMSL at Leemon Field. McKendree fired away first with a score in the 34th minute by Schubert, who corralled the ball and sent it into the net. The host held the 1-0 advantage into the intermission.
UMSL tied the game at one goal a piece in the 63rd minute. McKendree and UMSL went back and forth through the remainder of the game with the Bearcats breaking through in the 81st minute. McKendree found itself with an opportunity following extended possession in its attacking third, allowing Martin to gather a sporadic ball into the goal. Freshman midfielder

Christian Herluf earned another victory in goal, playing full time for all contests this season. The Bearcats' defense allowed just four total shots in the game and one sole on-frame shot.

Matteo Schubert scored an unassisted goal in the first half, his first of the season. He now totals four points with one goal and two assists.
Junior forward
James Martin also added his first score of the year for his first points of the season.
McKendree is one of four uinbeaten teams in the GLVC as well as one of four squads named in last week's USC DII national poll, as they received votes.
