LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer (RV) dropped its first contest of the season against the Lewis Flyers, 1-0, on Friday night. The Bearcats sit 5-1-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this season with the result. McKendree will host No.8 Indianapolis, one of four teams mentioned in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll, on Sunday, October 1 with a 2:30PM kick-off.
The Bearcats and Flyers battled from end-to-end in the game with constant pressure in both directions from the squads. McKendree mustered seven shots in the first half while Lewis fired five in the first 45 minutes. Lewis broke the ice with a score in the 32nd minute, leading 1-0 at the intermission.
McKendree fought back hard for the remainder of the game, firing four shots with two on-frame with three earned corner kicks in the latter half.
Lewis came away with the victory, handing the Bearcats their first loss of the 2023 campaign.
