MORGANTOWN, W.Va - McKendree Men's Water Polo closed out the Salem Invitational with a loss to The Unites States Naval Academy and left on a high note with a big win over Washington and Jefferson College to finish 3-1 on the weekend.
"We've improved massively in the three weeks since our opening weekend at the Bruno Invite. There's a night and day difference in seeing the men compete at Salem versus up in Boston. We proved that we could pose a threat at both ends of the pool and I look forward to seeing continued growth." Said Coach Colleen Lischwe.
The Bearcats fell into a 5-3 hole after the first quarter and had a hard time climbing out resulting in a 17-9 loss. Despite the loss, freshman Yannick Robertson scored six goals leading all individuals for the match. Sophomore Zach Callejas added in two goals as well.
In the second match of the day McKendree earned a 21-11 win over Washington and Jefferson College as they remain undefeated all time against the Presidents. The Bearcats saw a well-rounded scoring attack seeing 10 individual players scoring. Zach Callejas poured in four goals and four assists on the day and senior Breno Tebet and freshman Isaac Demski each added three goals of their own.
The Bearcats jump back in the pool Sept. 28, where they will venture to California to face their first conference opponent of the season in Biola University as well nonconference Whitter College.
