CEDAR FALLS, Iowa | UNI Dome - No.10 McKendree University men's wrestling (4-3) closed out the NWCA / USMC National Duals Championship on Saturday, ending with a 3-2 record and  seventh place finish after defeating new conference-foe Upper Iowa in the seventh-place bout. The Bearcats toppled three ranked squads during the weekend with wins over No.20 Ashland, t-No.1 West Liberty, and the 12th-ranked Peacocks while dropping two close battles against t-No.1 Central Oklahoma and a criteria dual result versus No.15 UMary. McKendree battled through a tough weekend and will finally head into conference matchups this week, wrestling Maryville on January 12 and hosting Upper Iowa on January 13.

NOTES
McKendree claimed three ranked wins during the weekend duals tournament championship, dominating in its three victories against No.1 West Liberty, No.12 Upper Iowa, and No.20 Ashland.

The Bearcats tallied six pin falls, four technical falls, and five major decisions. 

McKendree improved to 2-0 all time against Ashland, 3-2 versus Upper Iowa, and grabbed the win in the first-ever battle against West Liberty. 

125 #4 Christian Mejia earned four bonus-point wins during the duals tournament, including two tech falls and two majors.

141 #5 Ronan Schuelke collected four victories overall, including an upset over141 #2 Ty Lucas of Central Oklahoma on a 9-6 decision.

McKendree men's wrestling will begin its GLVC dual slate this week, taking on the Saints at Maryville on Friday and then hosting Upper Iowa on Saturday.
