ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Seventh-ranked McKendree University men's soccer (9-0-5, 6-0-5 GLVC) returned to battling adversaries on the road on Friday evening, playing to a nil-nil draw at Lewis. The Bearcats and sophomore goalkeeper
Christian Herluf tallied a ninth shutout this fall behind the result, keeping the squad unbeaten overall. McKendree finishes its regular season road contests on Sunday, October 27 at Key Stadium with a 2:30PM kickoff against Indianapolis (RV).
McKendree and Lewis battled throughout the game, not only for the lead but simply possession. The two squads are well versed in possession-based affairs as both teams made NCAA Tournament runs in 2023 and both look to do the same here in 2024. The Bearcats fired just two shots in the first 45 minutes of action while Lewis put up just three. Halftime came with the game locked up at 0-0.
The second half saw the same battle as just seven total shots were fired, six of which came from Lewis. McKendree held more than its own in the game, recording its ninth shutout of the fall with a nil-nil result. Sophomore goalkeeper
Christian Herluf added his 23rd career shutout in the game, putting him just one behind the program's career leader, Alvaro Cortazar, who recorded 24 in a Bearcats kit.
