LEBANON, Ill. – The inaugural Battle for the Land of Lincoln between the McKendree University Bearcats and the Quincy University Hawks was contested at Leemon Field on Saturday, October 5th. The Hawks took home the Top Hat with the 34-10 win.
About a quarter and a half into the contest, the Hawks jumped out to a 17-0 lead on two rushing touchdowns and a field goal. Kaleb Barry got the Bearcats on the board with a 21-yard field goal that ended a 15-play, 79-yard play drive lasting four minutes.
As the game moved to the second half, McKendree received the kickoff. They took the ball 77-yards in 8-plays that ended in Ty Michael finding Yogi Flager, Jr. for the six yard touchdown pass to make it a one score game at 17-10. Unfortunately, the Hawks added 17 points to cap the scoring.
The touchdown by Flager, Jr tied him for the top spot in the program's receiving touchdown category with Matt Cole at 17.
The Bearcats will remain at home next week as they welcome the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats for the annual homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Leemon Field.
