LEBANON, Ill. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) has selected sophomore forward Baylie Parks (Lake Zurich, Ill.) as their women's basketball Player of the Week for November 18th, 2024, making it her first receiving of such honor.
This is the third time ever that McKendree has won GLVC Player of the Week, and all coming within these last two seasons. Now-senior guard Clare Breden (Jerseyville, Ill.) and now-graduated forward Naomi McDaniel (Attica, Ind.) won it in back-to-back weeks for the Bearcats in the month of December, 2023.
The Lake Zurich native was nothing short of amazing in the team's 2-0 performance in the annual Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic with wins against Washburn University and Roosevelt University. She has made an impact in every game thus far in the program's undefeated season.
"Baylie had an impactful weekend for our team, making key plays on both ends of the court" said Head Coach Kari Kerkhoff. "She's playing like we know she's capable of, while her teammates are finding her in great positions to get her the ball."
In the first game against the Ichabods, Parks had 22 points on 10-18 shooting while going 2-3 from distance and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds for her first-ever double-double. In the following game, she tied with two other Bearcats with 14 points, going an efficient 7-8 from the floor in 21 minutes of action while snagging seven boards and dishing out three assists. On the week, the sophomore totaled 36 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, and two steals while going 65.4% from the field.
Parks is currently scoring a team-high 18.3 points and grabbing 8.0 rebounds a contest while also leading the team in three-point percentage at 60.0%. Nationally, she is 22nd in Division II in field goal percentage at 64.9%, which comes in first in the GLVC. Rebounding-wise, Parks is top 125 in total rebounding (#92 offensive and #243 defensive), slotting her at 118th.
