Kane Named WWPA Defensive Player of the Week

LEBANON, Ill. - Women's water polo junior goalie Sydney Kane was selected as the Western Water Polo Association Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league's office on Tuesday.

Kane earns her first weekly accolade this season after her performance this past weekend at the McKendree Mini Tournament, where McKendree went 2-0 on the weekend. In the first game against Augustana College, Kane saved 12 goals and only allowed eight, while securing one steal. In game two against Carthage College, Sydney played 24 minutes saving 15 goals only allowing one and securing a steal. On the weekend Kane had a save percentage of .750 and is currently leading the conference in save percentage (.541) and goals against average (10.44), and she is second in total saves (73).

Kane is the first Bearcat of the season to be selected for this weekly honor. The Bearcats are now 2-4 on the season as they travel to Saint Paul, Minn. to compete in the Macalaster Invite.
