LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's volleyball posted a big win over Queens University of Charlotte on Friday night to capture its fifth consecutive victory and set a team record for single-match hitting percentage. The Bearcats improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
McKendree put the pedal down and did not let up in two straight 25-12 sets before sealing the win in set three 25-19. As a team, the Bearcats hit a school record .527, the highest in a match since the program began in 2014.
Leading McKendree in kills was redshirt junior right side hitter Nikos Xydakis who tallied 12 kills while junior outside hitter Kevin Schuele recorded 10 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Rolen Lively and junior middle blocker D'Aaron McCraney had the highest hitting percentages of the night at .857 and .750 respectively. Each of the middle hitters posted six kills.
Defensively, redshirt sophomore Yadiel Diaz snagged a season-high 12 digs followed by Schuele and redshirt sophomore Sam Hoskin with six apiece. Xydakis grabbed four blocks in addition to three each from McCraney and Lively.
Redshirt senior setter Tyler Poulsen delivered a team-high three aces and 35 assists on the night.
Up next, the Bearcats are on the road at Purdue Fort Wayne for a two-game outing next weekend.
