LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's volleyball is set to play two games against Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponent Purdue University Fort Wayne this coming weekend. The Bearcats' play their first game on Friday, February 23 at 6 pm. followed by another on Saturday, February 24 at 3 pm.
McKendree is on a five-game win streak with a record of 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the MIVA. Since last week, the Bearcats have climbed up two spots in the MIVA standings to second place just behind Ohio State who sports a 5-1 conference record. In statistics, the Bearcats have risen to first in points and kills, scoring 17.03 points per set and putting down 13.53 kills per set and remain first in digs, tallying 10.53 per set. McKendree is also second in assists at 12.67 per set and third in hitting percentage at .306 percent. On the national level, the Bearcats rank second in digs, third in kills, and fourth in assists.
Individually, McKendree has two players who have claimed top-10 sots in national statistics categories including redshirt senior setter Tyler Poulsen who is second in assists (11.10 per set) and junior outside hitter Kevin Schuele who leads the MIVA and is sixth nationally in digs (2.59 per set).
Purdue Fort Wayne enters the weekend with a 7-7 overall record and a 1-4 conference record as the Bearcats look to extend their win streak to seven. In conference statistics, the Mastodons rank fourth in blocks, snagging an average of 2.09 per set. Outside hitter Mark Frazier is fifth in kills at 3.56 per set while middle blocker Bryce Walker leads the charge in blocking at 0.82 per set, good for fifth-highest in the MIVA.
