LEXINGTON, Va. - The McKendree women's water polo team competed in the VMI Invite this past weekend, facing off against four challenging opponents going 0-4 on the weekend.

McKendree faced Mount St. Mary's Saturday morning, falling 15-18 to the Mountaineers in the first game of the season. The Bearcats were led by freshman Shanelle Márquez and senior Jazmine Guzman with five goals each. Junior Sydney Kane tabbed in nine saves at the goal. 

Against the University of Toronto, the Bearcats fell 4-8 in a hard-fought battle. The Bearcats were led by sophomore Joey Rebelo with two goals and Márquez secured two steals.

On Sunday, the Bearcats fell to Virginia Military Institute and Villanova University to close out the weekend. McKendree played strong against the Kangaroos but fell just short losing 9-10. The Bearcats were led by Kane notching in 17 saves and sophomore Jazmin Sandoval with three steals. McKendree fell to Villanova 7-17 with four different Bearcats scoring.

The Bearcats will be back in action this weekend as they will be hosting the McKendree Mini Tournament in O'Fallon, Ill. at the Metro Rec Plex.
