CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University softball (23-16, 6-6 GLVC) hit the road for another conference weekend, falling against Maryville in its pair of games across the St. Louis region. The Bearcats nearly made the comeback in game two with ample base runners in the latter innings, scoring two in the top of the seventh before a close play wrapped up the game. McKendree continues its road weekend with a doubleheader down at Missouri S&T on April 7 in Rolla, Missouri.
GAME 1 @ Maryville
The opening innings of the first bout between the Bearcats and Saints was null of scoring, with neither squad punching one in before the fourth. Maryville struck first with two runs on the bottom of the fourth and did so again in the fifth inning, leading 4-0. The Bearcats left two runners on over the course of the fourth and fifth, unable to drive them in.
McKendree knocked just three hits with junior utility

Mollie Vetter each recording one in the first contest of the day. Senior
Ellie Quaethem tossed the full game with six strikeouts in her effort.
GAME 2 @ Maryville
The Bearcats sped things back up in game two with graduate infielder

Molly Bartz in the top of the first. McKendree led 1-0 up into the fourth inning with Bartz's run.
The Saints fought back to take a 3-1 advantage in the fourth, holding off a vicious Bearcats battery in the process. McKendree then pushed back in the seventh with Stansbury pushing home Harris to cut the deficit to just one run. The Bearcats nearly tied the game with a sac fly but the Saints fired the ball home to end the game, 3-2.
McKendree tallied eight hits in the latter contest of the day. Junior pitcher
Paige McAllister tossed the full game, totaling four punchouts.
