Women's Volleyball Sweeps the Aggies, Preusser Records 1000th Career Kill

SHAWNEE, Okla. - McKendree University women's volleyball splits on the first day of the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational with an electrifying sweep over Cameron University and a tough four-set match against Southwestern Oklahoma State University. 

In game one against the Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the Bulldogs came out hot winning the first two sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-22. In the third set, the Bearcats gained momentum winning the set with a score of 25-18 but fell short in the fourth set with a score of 25-22.

McKendree had three Bearcats lead the way recording double-doubles. Graduate student right side Colleen Preusser secured 20 kills and 18 digs, while junior outside hitter Destiny Gray also punched in a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Senior setter Amber Williams led the team in digs with 22 and assists with 44, also recording a double-double. 

Freshman outside hitter Isabella Eskierka chipped in offensively with a career-high nine kills. Defensively, the Bearcats added a total of seven blocks,  junior middle blocker Hannah Kampwerth claimed four blocks, and freshman middle blocker Avery Guisinger notched in three blocks. 

In game two, McKendree swept the Aggies with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-21. During the match, Preusser secured her 1,000th career kill making her a member of both the 1,000 career kills and digs club. 

As a team, McKendree hit a season-high .323 percent. Preusser notched a second double-double on the day with 16 digs and 13 kills. Gray led the way offensively with 16 kills and Eskierka added six kills. Williams secured 36 assists and helping out defensively, junior libero Ashlyn Berczynski had 9 digs, and freshman defensive specialist Emmerson Longtin pitched in with six.

The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow September 14th, for day two of the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational with two games at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
