Women’s Volleyball to Open GLVC Play on the Road

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's volleyball kicks off its Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend with two matches on the road. The Bearcats face off against William Jewell College on Friday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match on Saturday against Rockhurst University.

McKendree holds a 2-8 overall record after two games and two tournament outings. Most recently, the Bearcats traveled to St. Louis to battle against the University of Missouri - St. Louis and Maryville University. Leading the way offensively for the Bearcats is junior outside hitter Destiny Gray with 3.32 kills per set and graduate student right side Colleen Preusser with 3.11 kills per set. Senior setter Amber Williams is ranked No. 6 in the GLVC in assists with 9.22 assists per set. Defensively, Preusser leads McKendree in digs with 3.73 digs per set.

After the first few weeks of the season, William Jewell sports a 4-7 overall record to start conference play. Offensively, the Cardinals are led by senior outside hitter Bella LaPorta with 11.76 kills per set who holds the No. 4 spot in kills for the GLVC. LaPorta also leads the teams in digs with 3.24 digs per set. Leading the way in assists for the Cardinals is senior setter Samantha Thompson with 5.24 assists per set.

The Hawks have been off to a strong start for the season, collecting a 6-3 overall record. They will take on UMSL Friday night before facing off with the Bearcats. Returning for the Hawks and leading in kills is graduate student right side Tera Reberry with 3.50 kills per set. Defensively, graduate student libero Maureen Reilly is leading the team in digs with 5.28 digs per set and is ranked No. 3 in digs for the GLVC.
