No.13 Women's Soccer Rebounds with Shutout Win over SBU

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - 13th-ranked McKendree University women's soccer (8-1-0, 4-1-0 GLVC) bounced-back on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout victory over Southwest Baptist on its home turf. The Bearcats had three goal-scorers with sophomore forward Aubrey Andrews, sophomore midfielder Maggie Gleckler, and senior forward Lena Higgins to lead them to the conference win. McKendree hits the road once again for its next Great Lakes Valley Conference battles on October 4 and 6 at Lincoln and Missouri S&T.

The Bearcats bombarded SBU from the start, putting up 16 shots in the first half, controlling  all aspects of the contest. McKendree and Southwest Baptist continued through most of the first half scoreless as SBU scrambled against the 13th-ranked Bearcats' pressure, which broke through the in the 34th minute of play. The sophomore forward Aubrey Andrews got a dish-off from the senior pairing of forward Anna Stiffler, who fed the ball into the box, leading to midfielder Katie Spotanski immediately passing it onwards to a cutting Andrews. Andrews then blasted her shot into the back of the net. McKendree did not lok back or let up from that point forward.

In the second half, McKendree pushed for more goals with sophomore midfielder Maggie Gleckler score an unassisted goal over SBU in the 54th, making it a 2-0 game. McKendree kept up its pace and pressure, looking to fire another goal and they found just that in the closing minutes. Stiffler looked to bash a ball at the goal but went short on her attempt, connecting with senior forward Lena Higgins, who flicked the shot into the goal to make it a 3-0 contest.

Overall McKendree fired 15 shots on-frame while earning seven corners with  sophomore goalkeeper Peyton Baker getting her first start and win in goal this fall.
