No.24 Men's Soccer Stands Above Hillcats Behind Four Goal Effort in Oklahoma

Bearcats topple second-straight regional foe, defeating Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. | Soldier Field - No.24 McKendree University men's soccer out-paced Rogers State to collect another true road win during non-conference play, defeating the Hillcats 4-2 and four different goal scorers. The Bearcats were led to the victory by an eventual game-winner by senior midfielder Philipp Schmidt while three players, freshman midfielder Matthaeus Hirschmann, freshman defender Pablo Pola, and junior forward Rezhis Koxhaj, each fired their first goal as Bearcats. McKendree concludes its non-conference slate this upcoming week with another road bout against Ohio Dominican on September 11 in Columbus, Ohio. 

Going up early in the game, the Bearcats had to battle throughout to regain and keep their lead over Rogers State. The freshman midfielderMatthaeus Hirschmann was the first to fire a score on the day with a fourth-minute score which put McKendree up, 1-0. The goal marked Hirschmann's first collegiate goal and points. The Hillcats evened the game with the 24th-ranked Bearcats in the 17th minute but the 1-1 knot did not hold. Another first goal put the Bearcats back ahead of RSU, 2-1, as junior forward Rezhis Koxhaj scored in the 34th minute, finding the back of the net unassisted.

McKendree held its 2-1 advantage going into the intermission period. The second half saw the Bearcats hit a rhythm offensively with the eventual game-winning goal being fired by Schmidt in the 60th minute, his first of the year. Just two minutes later in the 62nd, freshman defender Pablo Pola secured his first collegiate score while putting up another insurance score for McKendree.
