Women’s Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Reddie-Tiger Invitational, Sweeps Mississippi College in Three Sets

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - McKendree University women's volleyball concludes match play at the Reddie-Tiger Invitational, topping Mississippi College in three sets and falling to Ouachita Baptist University on day two of the tournament.

In game one against the Choctaws, the Bearcats swept the match with scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 26-24. Graduate student right side Colleen Preusser notched another double-double with 13 digs and 10 kills. Senior setter Amber Williams also tallied a double-double with 30 assists and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter, Destiny Gray led the way offensively with 12 kills—freshman defensive specialist Emmerson Longtin notched in five service aces and 12 digs. 

In game two, the Bearcats fell short in the first two sets to the Tigers with scores of 25-7, 25-15. The Bearcats gained momentum back in set three securing the win with a score of 26-24, but set four slipped away with the Tigers getting the victory with a score of 25-21. 

Williams secured another double-double for the Bearcats with 34 assists and 10 digs. Offensively, junior middle blocker Hannah Kampwerth and Gray each secured eight kills. Preusser and junior libero Ashlyn Berczynski added to the defensive effort with 10 and 9 digs, respectively. Additionally, Gray and freshman middle blocker Avery Guisinger both tallied in four blocks.

McKendree is back in action next weekend on Sept. 13-14 as they compete in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational in Shawnee, Okla.
