FAYETTE, Ia. – The Bearcats fell in a 5 set heart breaker at Upper Iowa this evening. After going up 2 sets to none with the scores of 25-13 and 25-23, the Peacocks of Upper Iowa came fighting back taking the next 3 sets straight, pulling off the reverse sweep over McKendree with the scores of 25-22, 26-24, 15-12.

Despite coming up short in the match, multiple McKendree players had monumental season and career high nights.

The Bearcats were led offensively by senior outside hitter Destiny Gray with 25 kills. Gray was followed by her counterpart, graduate outside hitter Emily-Kate Lonergan with 16 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Avery Guisinger tallied 10 kills to help give McKendree the offensive edge over Upper Iowa. As a team, the Bearcats finished with 65 kills while the Peacocks only recorded 57. McKendree also finished with the better hitting percentage, .181, while Upper Iowa ended with a hitting percentage of .124. Freshman setter Peyton Uptgraft set the McKendree team up for success with 52 assists.

McKendree also picked up more digs with 123 compared to Upper Iowa's 107 digs. Senior libero Ashlyn Berczynski led the way for the Bearcats with 44 digs. She was followed by Gray who marked 32 digs, notching her 6th double-double (25 kills and 32 digs) on the season. Uptgraft added in 19 digs as well marking her 5th double-double (52 assists and 19 digs) of the season. At the net, the Bearcats recorded 9 blocks, 3 more than the Peacocks 6, with Guisinger leading with 5.

Behind the service line the Peacocks beat the Bearcats. Upper Iowa finished with 8 aces. McKendree was just 3 short, tallying 5.

The Bearcats will put conference action on pause next weekend, as they compete in the Midwest Region Crossover in Hammond, Ind. at the Hammond Sports Plex & Community Center on Oct. 17th-18th. The schedule is yet to be release. Be sure to check mckbearcats.com for updates on the full schedule.
