CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University men's soccer (4-4-4, 4-2-3 GLVC) dropped its first contest in a month on Sunday, falling 1-0 against the Maryville Saints on the road. The Bearcats were on a seven-game unbeaten streak since the conference opener ut were unabel to add a late game-tying score against the Saints. McKendree will be back in action on October 19 at Illinois Springfield after the 'bye' game on October 17.
McKendree bombarded the Saints throughout the contest, unable to push on through on the day. The Bearcats and Saints went back-and-forth throughout the first half with both squads firing four shots a piece, including just three of eight total going on-goal. The Saints managed to earn a foul in the box to get themselves a penalty kick attempt, taking a 1-0 lead with the attempt being converted.
McKendree went into the second half of play with a reinvigorated attack, tallying 10 shots for the half with four going on-frame for the Bearcats. Even with the heavy forward pressure and attack, the Bearcats were not able to sneak a goal past the Saints' defense to even up the game, leaving the Bearcats with just their second loss in conference play this year. Sophomore midfielder
Henri Poll led the effort in shots for the Bearcats, totaling five with three going on-frame.
