Bearcats Take Second at Warhawk Classic

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The McKendree Women's Bowling team started off the year in the right direction with a second-place finish at the Warhawk Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater this past weekend. 

The team consisted of Cerra Brown, Emma Zinn, Miranda Emery, Grace Ogle, Shanna Kimball, Vicki Andrews, Marisa Loft, and Jaycie Smith. Throughout the weekend, the team only dropped three of their 11 total matches, finishing with a record of 8-3 and a total pinfall of 11,357 over 64 games. 

On Friday, the team went undefeated in their five baker matches with a total pinfall of 4,625. This effort put the team in second place going into the next day. 

On Saturday, the Bearcats had five traditional matches where they knocked down a total of 4,412 pins, averaging 176.42 as a team. Brown led the team, finishing ninth, averaging 180.80, with a high game of 202. Zinn was right behind her averaging 178 and finishing 14th among the field.   

Emery was able to finish 23rd with four complete games and averaged 179.25 in those games. Ogle, Kimball and Andrews all bowled three complete games, averaging 186, 163.33 and 154.33, respectively. Loft bowled two games and averaged 195.  

McKendree went into Sunday as the second seed where they faced #1 seed Newman in the first best of seven baker matchplay. The team ended up winning that match four games to three to move on in the stepladder. In the second round they beat #10 Edgewood four games to none.  

The Bearcats found themselves in the championship facing off against #1 Newman. The match once again got to seven games where Newman narrowly defeated McKendree in the final baker game. 

McKendree also sent a team to compete in the USBC (United States Bowling Congress) Western Shootout event in Indianapolis, Indiana. There, the team finished 17th out of 28 teams and had a total pinfall of 7,863.  

Addysen Case led the team in the traditional games, averaging 188.5 and a high score of 226. Avan Rhodes and Alexa Valadez also had a good showing averaging 169.83 and 168, respectively. The team also averaged 178.94 in the 16 baker games on Sunday.  

Next Up  

The McKendree Women's Bowling team will have two teams competing in two weeks. One team will be headed to Des Plaines, Illinois to compete in the Windy City Classic hosted by Valparaiso on October 31st through November 2nd. Another team will head to St. Charles, Missouri to compete in the Lions Classic hosted by Lindenwood which will be November 1st and 2nd.
