HAMMOND, Ind. – Women's volleyball concludes the Midwest Region Crossover in a sweeping 3-0 fashion against the Pioneers of Malone University. The Bearcats controlled the match with the final scores of 25-23, 25-8, 25-16.
McKendree outscored the Pioneers 57 points to 36 and recorded 39 kills as a team compared to the Pioneers 27. The Bearcats were dominat behind the service line with 13 aces while Malone only notched 2 on the match. McKendree finished tallying at 43 digs, 12 more than the Pioneers 31.
Senior outside hitter Destiny Gray led the McKendree team with 11 kills followed by freshman opposite Avery Wuebbels who had 8 kills on the match. Freshman setter Peyton Uptgraft made her offensive presence known, notching 6 kills while putting up 21 assists. Gray and Uptgraft also recorded 3 aces a piece, but it was sophomore middle blocker Avery Guisinger with a career high of 6 aces who led the Bearcats from the service line.
On the defensive end, senior libero Ashlyn Berczynski was the anchor tallying 15 digs. Junior defensive specialist Brielle Crose and Uptgraft followed suit each with 5 digs on the match. At the net, Guisinger notched 3 blocks which led the McKendree team.
The Bearcats return home to the Melvin Price Convocation Center as they resume conference action Oct. 24-25 with matches against Maryville and Missouri S&T. McKendree will face Maryville on Oct. 24 at 6:00 pm for their Military appreciation night and Missouri S&T on Oct. 25 at 3:00 pm for their purple out match.
