LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree's women's volleyball team fell in the homecoming battle against the Miners of Missouri S&T in four sets. The final scores were 25-22, 21-25, 14-25, 21-25.
Despite taking the opening set of the match, the Bearcats struggled to find consistency and gain momentum throughout the following three sets. In the first set, the Miners recorded 10 kills but had 15 errors to go along with it. This resulted in Missouri S&T hitting at a -.106 percent. McKendree marked 8 kills on 7 errors, hitting at a .03 percent. The Miners had a quick turnaround that the Bearcats did not have a response to which allowed Missouri S&T to obtain the momentum going into the third set. Only notching 5 errors and hitting at a .324 percent throughout the second and third sets combined.
The Bearcats were outscored 69 points to 48. McKendree finished the match with 38 kills while the Miners notched 57. The Bearcats were also out served 6 aces to 2. Defensively, the match was evenly played. McKendree picked up 75 digs compared to the Miners 77. At the net, the Bearcats tallied 2 more blocks than Missouri S&T with 8 blocks compared to the Miners 6.
Senior outside hitter Destiny Gray recorded her 7th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 23 digs on the match. Gray also led the team in kills and digs with her stellar performance. Freshman setter Peyton Uptgraft tallied 31 assists to go along with her 14 digs.
McKendree continues conference play next weekend, Oct. 31st-Nov. 1st. The Bearcats will be back on the road as they head to Lewis University on Oct. 31st for a 6:00 pm match and the University of Indianapolis on Nov. 1st for a 3:00 pm match.
