Men's Soccer Shuts Down Flyers in Rainy Sunday Matchup

Bearcats tally shutout while grabbing third-straight win

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer (7-4-4, 7-2-3 GLVC) earned a third-straight win behind a 3-0 shutout over the Lewis Flyers on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats battled not only the Flyers but a dreary Sunday afternoon with rain falling throughout the contest, but nevertheless, McKendree got it done to hold their third place positioning in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as they head into the final weekend of regular season action. All three of the Bearcat goals were fired in the first half before McKendree settled in and utilized its strong defensive presence to lock down their third of the field. McKendree finishes out the regular season next weekend as the squad takes a road trip north to Upper Iowa on October 31 before heading down to Quincy on November 2.

McKendree started up quick with its first and eventual game-winner coming in just the third minute of play as junior forward Lenny Dupoyet fired his first score and game-winner as a Bearcat. McKendree held its 1-0 advantage until the mid-way point of the first half as sophomore forward Adam Reiniger broke through on a dish out from Dupoyet, connecting for the 2-0 lead on Reiniger's fourth goal of the campaign. Then, just a few short and rainy minutes later, the Bearcats tallied their third goal off a set corner piece with sophomore midfielder Paul Moodie firing his first of the season.

McKendree led 3-0 as it went into the intermission period and held that lead all the way through the second half for the victory and shutout.
