EAST LANSING, MICH. – The McKendree men's rugby team traveled to Michigan to take on Michigan State. The Bearcats won 36-5.
"I am very proud of the performance our lads gave today against a very strong Michigan State side. They're a quality program, very well coached, and pushed us all the way to the final whistle. To be able to grind out a win was a positive step forward, but we still have much to work on and we'll look to adjust some areas and go again against Illinois next weekend for the Battle of Illinois Trophy," said head coach Cam Wyper on the teams performance.
Freshman Tyler Coughlan had two tries, while sophomore Jacob Partington, senior William Wickens, sophomore Jacob Kinnaird and sophomore Rufus Doran all had one try each. Senior Ethan Edwards had two conversions, and Doran had one conversion.
The player of the match goes to Jacob Partington.
Up next, the Bearcats will travel to Urbana-Champaign to take on the University of Illinois for the Battle of Illinois Trophy on October 11th. Game time is set for 1 pm.
