LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer moved to 4-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Missouri S&T on Friday night with a pair of goals from freshman forward
Fredrik Thulin. The Bearcats used Thulin's two goals, with one coming in each half, to push themselves to victory as the defense forced Missouri S&T out of scoring opportunities throughout the latter half. McKendree remains at home with its next contest against No.12 Lincoln (MO) on Sunday, October 5 at 2:30PM.
McKendree used a strong first half and overall performance by freshman forward
Fredrik Thulin to go unbeaten over the last five contests, including four wins and three shutouts. The Bearcats first ook the lead in the 34th minute as a chaotic moment near the goal led to Thulin shifting and firing his third goal of the campaign for a 1-0 advantage. McKendree contained S&T in the late minutes of the first half to lock up the intermission advantage at 1-0.Â
The second half saw S&T turn up the pressure on a strong McKendree defense, firing 15 shots. The Bearcats added an insurance score in the 58th minute of action as Thuli, once again, connected in a chaotic moment to push his squad's lead to 2-0. McKendree let up with S&T capitalizing in the 71st but the Bearcats held strong to finish out the game with its one-score lead.Â
