Lebanon, IL - McKendree University Football sophomore kicker and punter
Chase Reeves has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon, following his clutch performance in the Bearcats' 24-21 road victory at Quincy in Week 5, allowing McKendree (2-3, 2-1 GLVC) to re-claim the Battle for the Land of Lincoln Trophy.
Reeves delivered one of the defining moments of the season thus far, drilling a game-winning 44-yard field goal with 5:44 remaining to lift the Bearcats over the Hawks on Saturday. The sophomore was a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points and averaged 52.4 yards per punt on five attempts, including a long of 67 yards and three punts downed inside the Hawks' 20-yard line. He also handled kickoff duties, totaling 284 yards on five kicks (56.8 average).
The Granite City, Illinois native's performance earned him his first career GLVC weekly honor and underscored a complete special-teams showing that proved vital in McKendree's rivalry win.
The Bearcats hit the road again this weekend, traveling to Bolivar, Missouri's Plaster Stadium to face the Southwest Baptist Bearcats (3-2, 2-1 GLVC). Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM and will be streamed live on the Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network (GLVCSN).
