KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – McKendree's women's volleyball team hit the road to take on Truman State. In a gritty battle, the Bearcats came out victorious, sweeping the Bulldogs of Truman State. The final scores were 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
The matchup between the Bearcats and the Bulldogs made for a close and exciting game. McKendree finished with a total of 43 points scored compared to Truman's 45 while recording 43 kills to Truman's 38. The Bearcats picked up 68 digs, the Bulldogs were 5 shy tallying 63. The Bearcats dominated behind the service line collecting 7 services aces as a team.
Offensively McKendree was led by senior outside hitter Destiny Gray who finished the 3-set match with 17 kills (5.67 kills/set). Gray hit at an efficiency percentage of .233. Gray was followed by freshman opposite Avery Wuebbels and graduate outside hitter Emily-Kate Lonergan who had 8 and 6 kills on the match, respectively. Freshman setter Peyton Uptgraft ran the offense in tonight's match dishing out 35 assists.
On the defensive end, senior libero Ashlyn Berczynski finished with 25 digs leading the back court. Gray tagged on 15 digs, giving herself a double-double performance (17 kills & 15 digs). Uptgraft also added in 8 digs to give the Bearcats the defensive edge over Truman State. At the net, the Bearcats tallied 3 blocks with Gray, Wuebbels and sophomore middle blocker Avery Guisinger each contributing.
The Bearcats will be back in action for another conference matchup on Oct. 11th at 3:00 pm in Fayette, Iowa as they take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
