LEBANON, Ill. – It is tourney time for the men's water polo team as they start to make their way to the WWPA Championships held at the SPIRE Aquatics Center in Geneva, Ohio from Friday, November 21st to Sunday, November 23rd.
The Bearcats have earned themselves the two-seed in the East Region of the conference and will play the three-seed from the West Region in Fresno Pacific University in quarterfinal action at 11:00 AM CT on Friday. Should McKendree beat the Sunbirds in their first matchup, they will take on the one-seed from the west in Concordia University Irvine the next day on Saturday, but if the Bearcats fall, they will automatically face the University of California, Merced in an exhibition bout. How the team fares in the first two days of the tournament will designate them to either the championship, third-place, or fifth-place game on Sunday in hopes to capture their first-ever WWPA title.
All matches throughout the WWPA Championships will be streamed live for free and on-demand on the WWPA Network as live stats will also be provided for fans to follow via The FOSH. Tickets are currently available for purchase online only (NO CASH!) with offers for both single-day and all-tournament passes.
SCOUTING THE LAST OUTING
McKendree wrapped up their regular season slate on a good note about a month ago, where they went 3-1 in the Salem Invitational hosted by conference-foe Salem University. They slashed Gannon University [19-16] as they also took down an old WWPA-foe in Mercyhurst University [20-9] to wrap up day one of the event. In day two on the next day, they fell short to Salem [17-19], which locked them as the two-seed in the East Region.
The outcome had the Bearcats finish with a 11-11 overall record while going 2-2 in conference play. The two-seed is the highest McKendree has ever finished in their respective region within the WWPA era (since 2023).
COUNTRY ROADS... JUST LIKE HOME
A positive outcome was needed to build momentum as they head into postseason action. It was McKendree's third event they participated in where they finished with a .500+ record within.
Junior attacker Armand Le Goff (Reims, France) was on a tear during the whole invitational. He separated himself from the rest of the pack by posting 33 points with 22 goals and 11 assists while also earning five drawn exclusions, five steals, three field blocks, and two sprint wins while shooting 66.7% on the net. The dominant performance earned Le Goff his second WWPA Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Le Goff has now broken three program records, as the French native is now first on the leaderboard for single-season points (116; previously 105), goals (78; previously 70), and field blocks (18; previously 15).
Freshman forward Alexandros Prokopis (Palaio Faliro, Greece) followed behind Le Goff with 14 points on eight goals and six assists, while tabulating eight drawn exclusions, seven takeaways, and a field block with 47.1% shooting.
Junior attacker Rowan Daughtrey (Commerce City, Colo.), senior utility James Ramey (St. Louis, Mo.), and senior attacker Kris Eyolfson (Winnipeg, Canada) all combined for 31 points, 15 goals, and 16 assists to supplement the offensive firepower.
All three McKendree goalkeepers found time in the waters as redshirt sophomore Gavin Haight (Jenison, Mich.) played in two games with a 2-0 record for 48 total minutes, as he collected 20 saves and three steals. Graduate goalkeeper Gennaro Pecoraro (Pesaro, Italy) also tabbed in 48 minutes of play across two games for a 1-1 mark with 18 saves, five steals, and an assist, while sophomore Brayden Ogle (Clovis, Calif.) logged 32 total minutes and had 15 saves, a pair of steals, and an assist.

LOOKING AHEAD
Should the Bearcats win on all three days of the WWPA Championships tournament and claim the conference title, they would earn an automatic bid into the National Collegiate Water Polo Championships from Friday, December 5th to Sunday, December 7th in Stanford, California at the Avery Aquatic Center, with the first round and semifinal matchups streamed at NCAA.com as the championship game will be aired on ESPNU.
If McKendree does not claim the title during conference playoffs, it will end their 2025 season and year number one of the Miguel Figueras era.
