No. 14 Bearcats Fight in Bracket Play; Finish Fourth

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – No. 14 McKendree Women's bowling finish fourth in its first home tournament of the season this past weekend at St. Clair Bowl.

The team had a final record of 7-5 with a total pinfall of 12,709 in 67 total games throughout the tournament. The tournament format consisted of five baker matches on Friday, five traditional matches on Saturday, and then bracket play on Sunday.

On Friday, the team went 3-1 defeating Alabama A&M, University of Indianapolis, and Southern University. With the one loss coming from a close match against Wright State University.

On Saturday, Cierra Brown finished 17th individually, averaging 193.2 throughout all five traditional games. Finishing with four accredited games each, Grace Ogle and Addysen Case averaged 192.5 and 189 respectively. Jaycie Smith, Shanna Kimball and Alexa Valadez averaged 181.67, 172, and 162, in three accredited games respectively. Marisa Loft had two accredited games, where she averaged 185. Victoria Porta finished with one accredited game where she rolled a 170.

After the traditional matches the team found themselves in fifth heading into the bracket play on Sunday. In the first match of the day, they met with a common foe in No. 11 Newman University where, in the last match up, they last lost to them in the championship game at the Warhawk Classic.

This time it turned out much differently; McKendree would go on to sweep them four games to none against the sixth seeded Jets. The team would go on to face No. 6 Central Missouri who were seeded fourth in the tournament, where the match would have to be decided by a five-frame roll-off.

Each team won three games each and tied another, which deadlocked both teams at 3.5 and forced a five-frame roll-off. The Bearcats came through in the clutch and rolled four straight strikes and marked in the fifth to secure the win to go on to the third-place game against No. 17 Sacred Heart University who were seeded first.

They would unfortunately come up short against the Pioneers in two games to four to finish in fourth place.

Next, the team will stay home and host the McKendree Match Games on November 22nd and 23rd at the Bel Air Bowl in Belleville, Illinois.
