SCOUTING THE LAST OUTING

McKendree is coming off an impressive start to their season as they went unblemished with a 2-0 mark at the annual GLVC/G-MAC Crossover event held in Tiffin, Ohio. There, the Bearcats started out with a comfortable win against the host Tiffin University, 63-44, and then took care of business the next day versus Malone University, where they came victorious, 65-53.

Sophomore guard Rini Harris (O'Fallon, Ill.) led the team in scoring with 32 total points, and rounded out with 15 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and a trio of blocks while shooting 52.4% from the field. Harris' 22 points against Malone were a career-high in his young tenure.

Senior guard Cha'Vez Woods (Louisville, Ky.) was not far off from Harris in scoring, as he had 31 of his own with a pair each of boards and assists, plus a steal on 44.4% shooting overall and a perfect 100% from the foul line.

Freshman guard Andrew Moore (Montgomery County, Mo.) dropped in 19 points across his forst two collegiate games of his career with supplemental stats of 13 rebounds, five assists, and four takeaways. He ended the Crossover with a bang in putting up a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards.

HISTORY SHOWCASE

The two old American Midwest Conference (AMC) foes during the Bearcats' days in the NAIA have only matched up once since McKendree made the transition into NCAA Division II in the 2012-13 season. In that lone contest, the Bearcats beat the Trojans handily, 88-51 in 2019 as part of the Quincy University Subway Holiday Classic. From 2006 to 2011, McKendree has had the upper edge, going 11-2 in the span's 13 matchups.

KNOW THE FOE

HLGU was picked at the beginning of this season to finish 3rd in the AMC with 46 points, including a first-place vote in the preseason poll. They return the 2025 AMC Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year in Josh Talton, who led the team to a 14-15 overall record last season while going 10-8 in conference play.

The Trojans currently sit at an even 3-3 this season, coming off a home win versus Missouri Valley College last Tuesday after dropping the three games prior. They have yet to play an AMC contest to this point. HLGU will face off against a couple of other GLVC-foes for exhibitions prior to the meeting with McKendree as they travel to Lincoln University (Mo.) Monday and Quincy University on Wednesday.

PUT A LID ON IT!

As of Monday, November 17th, McKendree ranks first in the entire nation within Division II in scoring defense, holding the opposition to 48.5 points per game. They held the G-MAC schools in Tiffin and Malone to 44 and 53 total points, respectively, as they outscored them by a 15.5 average margin.

The Bearcats' 48.5 scoring defense average is +5.5 greater than the second-highest team in the national rankings (Black Hills State University), who average 54.0.

DOUBLING DOWN

In only his second-ever collegiate game in his young career, Andrew Moore had collected a double-double in the win over Malone on Saturday, November 15th where he had 12 points and 10 rebounds with two of them coming on the offensive end of the floor. The Freshman is now the first Bearcat to record a double-double in a game since Luka Mateski recorded 28 points and 13 rebounds against Missouri S&T in the 2025 GLVC Championship Tournament quarterfinals.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF

McKendree is 2-0 for the second straight season, as they opened last year 2-0 at the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover after also facing Tiffin and Malone in the event, where they beat the Dragons and Pioneers 69-45 and 84-70, respectively. Should the Bearcats beat HLGU on Friday, they will match their three-game start of 3-0 like last season.
