Logan Kvien earning the league's Wrestler of the Year award and head coach
James Kisgen collecting his sixth Coach of the Year honors while seven Bearcats receive First Team nods, as announced by the GLVC on Thursday. The Bearcats finished the regular season by adding a sixth GLVC Championship to their trophy case by defeating UIndy in the semifinal round and Upper Iowa in the championship bout. McKendree heads off for the NCAA Division II Super Region IV Championship this weekend in Warrensburg, Missouri at UCM on Saturday, March 1, looking to qualify their squad for the national championships on March 14-15.
WRESTLER OF THE YEAR | Logan Kvien | R-Sr. | 197lbs
Kvien collects his first GLVC major award with the selection and became the fourth Bearcats to receive Wrestler of the Year laurels with Darren Wynn earning the honor in 2018, Ryan Vasbinder getting the nod in 2021, and Ian Kuehl bringing it home in 2022.The redshirt senior heads into the super regional championship with an 18-1 overall record, including nine falls and two technical superiority wins while ranking fifth in the NCAA DII 'Most Dominant' category so far this year (4.22 points per match). Kvien, a two-time All-American, already owns a pair of titles this year with wins at the 45th Midwest Classic in December and a tournament victory at the Findlay Open early in the season. He currently ranks as No.2 in the NWCA Division II National Coaches Poll after defeating the reigning 197 National Champion, then-No.1, and current No.3 Derek Blubaugh of UIndy in the GLVC semifinals. Kvien will look to build on his third place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship and his runner-up finish at the Super Region IV championships.
COACH OF THE YEAR | James Kisgen
Kisgen, who is in his 22nd season at the helm of the Bearcats, mentored seven First Team All-GLVC selections in 2024-25 while posting a 10-8 dual record and a 3-2 conference record. His Bearcats tallied a ninth-straight winning season while collecting a sixth Great Lakes Valley Conference crown and his sixth Coach of the Year honors. Kisgen and his squad sit as the seventh-ranked team in the country (NWCA poll) while having eight ranked wrestlers in the national poll.
