Rebelo Earns Offensive WWPA Player of the Week

The Now Four-Time Winner of the Honor Was Dominant in the Recent VMI Invite

LEBANON, Ill. - The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) has announced their weekly winners for February 5th, 2025, with junior attacker Joey Rebelo (Montreal, Québec) obtaining the WWPA Offensive Player of the Week.

This is Rebelo's fourth such honor received by the conference, as she won it three times last season within a 34-day span. Those trio of honors earned her WWPA First Team All-Conference and ACWPC First Team All-American.

Interim Head Coach Alex Figueras said the following on Rebelo and her dominance thus far into the early season:

"Joey has been one of our most consistent players over the past year and seems to always find ways to keep improving her game. She should be proud of the work that she has put in, and I cannot wait to see what she can do throughout the year."

Rebelo was a big factor in McKendree's 3-1 weekend at the annual VMI Invite. She was third in the tournament in total goals (12), second in total assists (7), first in points (19), third in field blocks (1), first in steals (3), second in assists per game (1.8), first in points per game (4.8), and second in steals per game (1.0). She also totaled four drawn exclusions in the invite.

In game one against the University of Toronto, Rebelo had two goals on four attempts with three assists, two steals, and a drawn exclusion. In game two against Virginia Military Institute, Rebelo had two goals on five attempts with two assists, two steals, and two drawn exclusions. In game three against DIII No.7 Austin College, Rebelo went a perfect 8-for-8 on shot attempts, which made a career-high in goals scored while adding an assist and a drawn exclusion. In game four against Bucknell University, Rebelo had one assist, one drawn exclusion, and a field block.

The junior now has 16 goals, 13 assists, 10 drawn exclusions, eight steals, and three field blocks as the assists, steals, and field blocks lead the team.

The Montreal, Québec native ranks in the top of the WWPA in total goals (3rd – 16), total assists (1st – 13), points (1st – 29), field blocks (3rd – 3), total steals (4th – 8), goals per game (7th – 2.0), assists per game (1st – 1.6), and points per game (1st – 3.6).

Rebelo is top nationally in total assists (8th – 13) and assists per game (9th – 1.6).
