LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - Behind an offensive bombardment, McKendree University men's soccer (1-3-1, 1-1-0 GLVC) snapped a three-game skid to collect its first win of the campaign with a 3-0 victory over Truman State on Friday night. The Bearcats were led by a two-goal performance from freshman midfielder
William Baxter while freshman forward
Fredrik Thulin fired another insurance score for his squad. McKendree remains at home for its next Great Lakes Valley Conference game with a battle against William Jewell at 2:30PM on Sunday, September 21.
The Bearcats gained footing late in the first half after a physical outing proceeded the lead, with Baxter receiving a dish out from sophomore forward
BK Ogbuke, connecting for the eventual game-winning score in the 42nd minute. The assist marked Ogbuke's first point and assist as a Bearcat while the goal marked Baxter's first goal and points in a McKendree uniform. McKendree owned a 1-0 advantage at the half with six shots in the first half and three corner kicks earned.Â
The second half saw a more than dominant performance from the Bearcats, holding possession and offensive chances over the Bulldogs. Two more goals locked the game up for the Bearcats, with the first coming in a breakaway for Baxter, pushing into the TSU box and finding the lower corner of the goal in the 64th minute for his second of the game. The Bearcat attack continued with an 85th minute insurance score by Thulin, his second of the year.Â
