FULTON, Mo. – The men's tennis team took on the Owls of William Woods today in an exhibition match. The Bearcats won 5-2.
The Bearcats got off to a rocky start, losing the doubles point, only winning the no. 3 match. In the no. 3 slot, Junior
Stepan Mach and freshman
Riccardo Ercolani defeated Seger and Ooka 6-3. Senior duo
Luka Kalenic and
Bendix Schroeder lost 2-6 to Burton and Melo in the no. 1 match, while junior
Felix Diedrichs and freshman
Ignacio Paolini were defeated by Hajek and Horton 3-6 in the no. 2 slot.
In singles play, the Bearcats picked it up, winning five of the six singles matches, giving them the win. In the no. 1 match, Mach won 6-3, 7(7)-6(5) over Burton. The no. 2 match was a 2-hour battle, going three sets. Schroeder came out on top over Melo 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Kalenic took down Horton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 in the no. 3 match. Paolini was defeated by Geukemeijer 3-6, 2-6 in the no. 5 match. Rounding out the wins on the day was Ercolani over Ooka 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 in the no. 5 match and senior
Aimar Oregui taking down Seger 6-0, 6-2 in the no. 6 match.
