LEBANON, Ill. – The Bearcats finished their play in the McKendree Invitational on Saturday evening with a 2:00 p.m. match against the Huskies of Michigan Technological University and a 7:00 p.m. match against the Purdue University Northwest Pride.
In McKendree's match up with the Huskies, the Bearcats were outlasted with a score of 0-3. The team struggled to find an offensive groove. Freshmen middle blocker Megan Bishton recorded 6 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Avery Guisinger added in 4 kills. On the defensive end, senior outside hitter Destiny Gray tallied up 15 digs to lead the back court with the help of senior libero Ashlyn Berczynski and freshmen setter Peyton Uptgraft notching in 6 digs each. The Huskies completed the 0-3 victory with the scores of 20-25, 11-25, and 15-25.
During the match against the Pride, Gray led on the offensive end with 9 kills. Freshmen opposite Avery Wuebbels and Bishton added 7 and 5 kills respectively to help ignite the Bearcats. Berczynski tallied up 12 digs while sophomore outside hitter Paige Parant recorded 10 digs to give the Bearcats life defensively. The Pride won in a 0-3 fashion with the scores of 20-25, 17-25, and 16-25.
Next up for the Bearcats will be the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Thursday, September 11th-Saturday, September 13th. They will face the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday to kick off the weekend.
