LAKE TOHO, Fla. – The 220 boat Bassmaster Lake Toho event is in the books, as Bearcat Anglers senior Ethan Fields (Breese, Ill.) and graduate student Lane Stephens (Talala, Okla.) weighed in a two-day total of 31-14 to finish in 20th and qualify for the upcoming Bassmaster National Championship.
Graduate Student Jack Stephens (St. Louis, Mo.) and junior Angelo Malek (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) weighed in 22-7 for 61st place, while graduate student Maxwell Trotter (Decatur, Ill.) and senior Kai Barnett (Columbiana, Ala.) weighed 22-5 for 63rd.
"As a team, we sent eleven boats to this event," said head coach Jon Rinderer. "After many agonizing and stressful hours of consideration, the parents, anglers, and I felt under these winter storm warnings, it would be wise to have the anglers return to campus on Thursday evening and Friday to avoid driving home in the potential heavy snow and ice that was forecasted."
"We were fortunate to have three teams that were either 5th-year master's program students, seniors with online studies, or anglers whose parents would fly back if necessary to remain for day two of competition. These three teams and their families were able to prepare and plan on staying for as long as necessary to remain safe and return home whenever that becomes possible."
