FULLERTON, Calif. – The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) announced on Thursday, January 29th, their WWPA Players of the Week winners, with McKendree junior center Bella Morquecho (Chicago, Ill.) taking home the Offensive side of the award.
Despite a tough outing at The Malmsten Invitational last weekend, going against a handful of top 25 opponents, Morquecho was the focal point of the attack. The Chicago product registered nine goals total in the event, with recording hat-tricks against T-No.13 University of California San Diego and T-No.7 Loyola Marymount University (four goals). The junior also drew eight exclusions in the process.
It is the second time Morquecho has received a WWPA Player of the Week accolade, as she was tabbed one last season on February 12th. It is the program's 18th selection (sixth offensive specifically) for the weekly award since they started competing in the conference in the 2018 season.
The reigning WWPA Newcomer of the Year is tied for second amongst her WWPA peers in total goals (9), while leading the conference in the early stages of the season in goals per game (2.3).
"Bella had an outstanding performance over the weekend while playing some of the toughest competition in the country, said Head Coach Alex Figueras. "She always has a great attitude and is constantly working to improve her game, and this recognition is a further reflection of that."
