Mauch, Begley, Andrews tally scores to dispose of Lewis

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - 22nd-ranked McKendree University women's soccer (11-1-0, 7-1-0 GLVC) dominated its Wednesday evening contest against Lewis behind strong performances across the field, finishing with a 4-1 victory over the Flyers. Junior forward Maddie Mauch set the tone with a pair of goals before graduate midfielder Macie Begley and senior forward Aubrey Andrews each tallied insurance scores for the win. The opening to the Wednesday night contest saw a brutal battle between the two programs with McKendree owning the possession for the majority of the first half. In the 35th minute, after pinging multiple long shots off the crossbar, Mauch finally found the back of the net on a short cross by junior forward Ella Rogan. The Bearcst led 1-0 for a short stretch. To follow-up her first score, Mauch then collected a lofting long ball from senior defender Miranda Malcom ad sent it past the Flyers' defense for another goal, her 12th of the year. McKendree held its 2-0 advantage into the intermission period with a 12-2 shot and a 2-0 corner lead.

The second half opened with a lot of back-and-forth movement between the two programs untl the 61st minute where a foul in the box led to a penalty kick for Begley. Begley scored her first goal with the Bearcats while making it a 3-0 lead for McKendree. The forward attack did not cease for McKendree in the following minutes as Andrews received a helper from Mauch to push the lead to 4-0 in the 65th. The waning minutes saw the Flyers put in a goal on a corner kick for the score to shift to 4-1.

McKendree cleared from that point forward and was victorious, 4-1. Junior goalkeeper Alyse Day started the contest while tallying 73 minutes, grabbing one save and the win in net.
