ROLLA, Mo. | Bailey Stadium - No.16 McKendree University women's soccer dropped its first game in weeks on Wednesday evening, falling to the Miners of Missouri S&T following chaotic, late-game action in its defensive third on a 3-2 final. The Bearcats ferociously came back to knot the game in the second half with a pair of goals by sophomore midfielder
Lyla Karolczak, who blasted two strong shots beyond the keeper. McKendree gets back home for its next two with Senior and Alumni Day on Sunday, October 11 at 2:30PM against William Jewell before hosting Missouri-St. Louis on Wednesday, October 14 at 5:00PM.
After going down 2-0 early, the Bearcats did not cease their attack, firing 12 shots in the first half before the intermission stretch arrived. In the second half, the Bearcats fired back with a pair of goals, first in the 56th minute. After collecting a ball that was sent out her way, Karolczak turned and sent a curling ball in towards the goal, seemingly as a cross but it would not be denied as the shot hit the upper right corner and cut the Miners' lead. McKendree saw its opportunities continue in the half and broke through again from deep outside the box The sophomore once again played hero launching a shot from well beyond the box and found the upper right 90 for her second and the equalizing goal.
After the 2-2 equalizer, the Bearcats pushed forward with multiple late opportunities as the teams squabbled to take the lead. In the final closing second of the contest, after a plethora of action in McKendree's defensive third and multiple player run-ins, S&T connected on a situational strike and found the back of the net.
McKendree fell 3-2, knocking its seven-game win streak.
