Women’s Soccer Gets Win Over Rockhurst; Ties GLVC Leader UMSL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – McKendree women's soccer (13-2-1, 9-2-1 GLVC) tied top of the table University of Missouri-St. Louis (10-1-3, 9-0-2 GLVC) in a scoreless dead lock and secured the victory against Rockhurst (8-4-2, 6-4-1 GLVC) with two second half goals. McKendree will stay on the road in the final two games of the season this next week with a midweek matchup on Wednesday October 21st against University of Illinois-Springfield at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday October 24th against Southwest Baptist at 12:00 p.m.

In the first game against UMSL, both defenses did well not letting quality shots get off. However, the Bearcats did better testing the Triton goalkeeper with six shots on target compared to the three from the UMSL offense. Both teams had plenty of chances to score with a total of 13 corner kicks and 21 total shots. Junior forward Maddie Mauch led the team in shots with four, three of which being on target. Senior midfielder Aubrey Andrews and senior defender Zoe Cormier each added a shot on target as well.

In the game against Rockhurst, the Bearcats wasted no time getting the ball in the back of the net with Mauch scoring a powerful volley for the opening goal less than 10 minutes into the game and would prove to be the game winning goal. She was assisted by Andrews, who got her second assist of the season. After a quiet rest of the first half, McKendree scored two goals in the second half to secure the victory. Mauch would get her second goal from a longshot outside the 18-yard box for her 16th goal of the season with senior midfielder Maggie Gleckler assisting. The third goal would come from Cormier, who scored off a bouncing ball into the box from graduate student midfielder Macie Begley.

McKendree would finish with 17 total shots with seven of them being on frame.
