Lemont, IL - An individual championship from Alba Camps Pascual and the lowest team round of the tournament highlighted a strong showing for the McKendree University women's golf team at the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate, held October 5th-6th at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club.
Camps Pascual earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 226 (+10), leading a Bearcat lineup that placed three golfers in the top 10 and four in the top 20. McKendree finished second in the 11-team field with a 937 (+73), using a second-round surge to move into the runner-up position and challenge host Lewis entering the final round.
The tournament was played over 54 holes on Cog Hill's No. 2 Ravines course. Lewis claimed the team championship with a 921 (+57), finishing 16 strokes ahead of McKendree. The Bearcats secured second by 10 strokes over Wisconsin-Parkside, which finished at 947 (+83).
Second-Round Surge Moves Bearcats into Second
McKendree opened with a 316 (+28), placing the Bearcats third after the first round. Rungrojanaluk had the team's lowest opening score with a 77, followed by Camps Pascual's 78, Chiara Bortolotti del Reino's 80, and Rachawadee Srimaung's 81. Lewis led with a 304 (+16), while Wisconsin-Parkside held second with a 313 (+25).
The Bearcats made their biggest move in round two, combining for a 302 (+14). That score was the lowest round recorded by any team throughout the tournament and marked a 14-stroke improvement from McKendree's opening round.
Camps Pascual powered that improvement with a 71 (-1), while Rungrojanaluk and Bortolotti del Reino each contributed a 75. Srimaung completed the counting scores with an 81. Camps Pascual improved seven strokes from her opening round, Bortolotti del Reino improved by five, and Rungrojanaluk improved by two.
The round moved McKendree ahead of Wisconsin-Parkside and into second place. The Bearcats also gained eight strokes on Lewis, who shot a second-round 310, cutting the Flyers' advantage from 12 strokes to four entering the final 18 holes. McKendree held a nine-stroke lead over Wisconsin-Parkside at that point.
The Bearcats closed with a 319 (+31), led by Camps Pascual's 77 and Bortolotti del Reino's 80. Rungrojanaluk and Srimaung each added an 81 as McKendree held onto its runner-up position.
Camps Pascual Captures Medalist Honors
Camps Pascual's individual medalist honors came behind rounds of 78, 71 and 77. Her opening round included birdies on the par-five third, par-three 14th and par-four 17th holes before she delivered her strongest performance in round two.
During her second-round 71, Camps Pascual birdied the first, sixth and 18th holes while recording 13 pars. She played the front nine in a one-under 35 and the back nine in an even-par 36, helping McKendree produce its best team round of the event.
Camps Pascual again played the front nine in 35 during the final round, recording birdies on the first, third, fifth, and sixth holes. Those four birdies brought her total to 10, and her closing 77 completed the medalist performance at 226 (+10).
Rungrojanaluk and Bortolotti del Reino Finish in Top 10
Waritsara Rungrojanaluk finished eighth with a 233 (+17), posting rounds of 77, 75 and 81. After leading McKendree in the opening round, she lowered her score by two strokes in round two with a performance built around 15 pars.
Rungrojanaluk parred every hole on the front nine of her second round for an even-par 36. Her opening round featured a birdie on the par-three seventh, while she added a birdie on the par-five third in the final round to complete her top-10 finish.
Bortolotti del Reino joined Camps Pascual and Rungrojanaluk in the top 10, tying for 10th with a 235 (+19). She recorded rounds of 80, 75 and 80.
Her second-round 75 featured birdies on the sixth, ninth and 11th holes, along with nine-hole scores of 37 and 38. Bortolotti del Reino also birdied the third hole in round one and the second hole in round three, finishing with five birdies across the tournament.
Srimaung Leads Remaining Bearcat Finishers
Srimaung placed 18th with a 243 (+27), recording an 81 in each round to give McKendree its fourth top-20 finisher. Her final round included her lowest nine-hole score of the event, a one-over 37 on the front nine that featured eight pars. She also recorded a birdie on the par-four 16th hole during the final round.
Cale Albertina tied for 42nd with a 263 (+47), improving her score in each round. After opening with a 93, Albertina lowered her score to an 86 in round two and finished with an 84, a nine-stroke improvement from her opening round.
Albertina recorded a birdie on the eighth hole in round two before adding birdies on the second and seventh holes in the final round. She played the front nine in 41 in both the second and third rounds, while her closing back nine of 43 was her best of the tournament.
Reagan Potts competed as an individual and tied for 50th at 273 (+57), shooting rounds of 89, 93, and 91. Her final round featured birdies on the par-three fourth and 14th holes. Potts played the back nine in 44 in both the opening and final rounds, matching her lowest nine-hole score of the event.
Behind Lewis, McKendree and Wisconsin-Parkside, Lincoln finished fourth at 976 (+112), Upper Iowa took fifth at 984 (+120), and Northern Michigan placed sixth at 987 (+123). McKendree finished 39 strokes ahead of fourth-place Lincoln.
