Men's Soccer Falls in High-Scoring Outing Against Miners

Bearcats tally late goals but were unable to match S&T pace

ROLLA, Mo. | Bailey Stadium - McKendree University men's soccer (2-7-2, 1-5-2 GLVC) dropped its Wednesday night road matchup to Missouri S&T in an offensive showcase between the teams, dropping 4-2 in the contest after cutting the lead early in the second half. Sophomore forward Fredrik Thulin and junior defender Philipp Muehlhans tallied the pair of Bearcat goals in the contest, both coming in the latter half of the day. The next bout for McKendree lands on Sunday, October 11, at 5:00PM against William Jewell at Leemon Field.

After a more stagnant first half, the Miners led 1-0 over McKendree, which led to an eventful second half of action for both squads. The first goal of the game came in the 27th minute to give the Miners the first 45 edge.

With the second half beginning, the two teams went back and forth with the Bearcats looking to equalize early. McKendree sent 13 shots in the second half, more than doubling the Miners' attempts. S&T managed to score in the 61st to hold the 2-0 lead over the Bearcats. The 73rd minute saw McKendree slice the lead in half as Thulin got the shot on a penalty kick opportunity, successfully completing the try. The Bearcats were down just one goal to their adversaries, 2-1, in the latter end of the half.

S&T tallied another pair of goals in the following 10 minutes of action, holding a 4-1 advantage. McKendree kept pressing on, hammering through another score in the 89th by junior defender Philipp Muehlhans, making it a 4-2 contest. The Bearcats fell by the two-goal margin with the final horn.
