EVANSVILLE, Ind. – McKendree Men's Swim and Dive had Vova Gavrysh take the title of National Champion in the 200-yard butterfly on the fourth day of NCAA Division II Nationals Friday night.
In the first event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle saw Jakub Rynkiewicz and Miguel Carvalhosa earn 19th and 23rd place with times of 4:27.38 and 4:29.54.
Nojus Bertulis got a 17th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, stopping the clock at 54.47.
To highlight the day, Vova Gavrysh took his second national championship in dramatic fashion. After being in third place after the first 100 yards, he kicked it into high gear for the final stretch and came back to win with a final time of 1:42.52. Also, in the consolation final Tyler Bardak and Phineas Theall finished within the top 15 getting 10th and 15th with times of 1:45.33 and 1:47.99 respectively.
Caden Brooks and Carson Olson were also in the event finishing in 24th and 27th place with times of 1:47.79 and 1:48.65.
The group of Gavrysh, Joey Ovanic, Theall and Tyson Upton finished the day off with a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay finishing with a time of 1:18.99.
They will be heading back to the Deaconess Aquatic Center for the fifth and final day of competition. The final events on Saturday include the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and then the 1650-yard freestyle.
