FULLERTON, Calif. – The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) announced on Wednesday, March 4th, their WWPA Players of the Week winners, with McKendree junior attacker Shanelle Márquez (Madrid, Spain) collecting the offensive award. 

In a one-game weekend that saw McKendree outlast their in-state rival DIII No.5 Augustana College in overtime 14-11, Márquez delivered immensely to help her team get back in the win column. She had a team-high five goals, to go with a drawn exclusion while being active defensively with a pair of steals and field blocks while shooting 55.6% on the goal. 

It is the junior's first time obtaining the weekly award, let alone any significant athletic honor in her collegiate career, as she is now the seventh Bearcat in program history to receive WWPA Player of the Week, giving the club 19 total in that category. 

The native of Spain is 10th in the entire conference in goals per game, netting a 1.8 average.
