FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) announced its All-MIVA awards on Thursday, before this weekend's opening round of the MIVA tournament hosted by McKendree. Five Bearcats were named to an All-MIVA team, including junior setter
Nate Flayter, graduate libero
Yadiel Diaz, redshirt senior outside hitter
Sam Hoskin, senior middle blocker
Rolen Lively, and senior opposite
Bryce Wetjen.
Flayter earned himself a spot on the All-MIVA First Team for the second time in his career in consecutive years. Flayter earned two MIVA Defensive Player of the Week awards earlier this season in back-to-back weeks on Mar. 3 and Mar. 10. He ranks No. 1 in the conference in assists with 10.25 per set, and sits No. 2 in the conference in digs with 2.17 per set.
Diaz was named to the All-MIVA Second Team, making this his third career All-MIVA Award, his second Second Team after being named to the First Team last season. Diaz has picked up 183 digs with an average of 1.85 digs per set. Hoskin was voted to Second Team All-MIVA for the second time in his career in consecutive years. Hoskin earned a MIVA Offensive Player of the Week award at the beginning of the season, Jan. 27. He averages 3.07 kills per set and 1.70 digs per set. Lively grabbed his career-first All MIVA award after earning a Second Team honor. He ranks No. 4 in the conference in blocks per set with 0.890. Lively also ranks No. 2 in the conference in hitting percentage with a .449 percentage. Wetjen earned a career-first Second Team honor. He notches No. 4 in the conference in kills per set with 3.57.
UP NEXT: The No. 4-seeded Bearcats start postseason play this weekend, Saturday, Apr. 18, as they take on No. 5-seeded Ohio State at 6:00 PM at the Melvin Price Convocation Center in Lebanon, Ill.
