QUINCY, Ill. – McKendree baseball (13-21, 5-11 GLVC) steals a game from Quincy (22-14, 11-9 GLVC) at the QU Baseball Stadium this past weekend.
Game One | Quincy 15, McKendree 5
Harrison Roman (W: 5-2), Rhett Detering (L: 2-2)
Offensively, the Bearcats notched 10 hits off the Hawks pitching staff. Leading the team was Peyton Bittle with a 3-4 day just a triple away from the cycle. He also added three RBIs with his three-run home run in the second inning. Javy Garcia was right behind him with two hits, both of them being doubles. Gabe Deaver, Max Meuli, Hunter Sherman, Quest Hull, and Kyle Richardson all added a hit in the game.
Pitching in the game was Rhett Detering who went 3.1 innings to start the game. Luke Aubuchon came in for relief and finished out the fourth inning and earned a strikeout out of his five batters faced. Derek Galdoni went in for three innings and only gave up two hits and earned two strikeouts. Ben Vaughn finished the game out and only gave up one hit.
Game Two | McKendree 5, Roosevelt 4
Trey Cole (W:4-4), Kade Ruffner (L:3-4), Owen Dunn (Save: 3)
In game two, McKendree wasted no time getting on the board as Sherman blasted a grand slam over center field to take the early lead. Quincy got on the board in the fourth, scoring three runs to get back into the game. In the top of the seventh, Meuli brought Deaver around to score which would prove to be the run to win the game.
Offensively, Garcia and Deaver would get two hits to join Sherman and Meuli in the hitting column.
Trey Cole earned his fourth win of the season going 5.2 innings and giving up only four hits and striking out four. Owen Dunn completed the rest of the game to shut the door on the Hawks.
Game Three | Quincy 8, McKendree 7
Quinn Schultz (W:1-0), Calan Kujawa (L:2-3)
The third game was a close game all the way through. Unfortunately, Quincy got the walk off runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the game.
Quest Hull had a career game going 4-5 with a single, two doubles and a two-run home run in the sixth to bring in a total of five RBIs. Deaver also had an RBI with a solo home run in the seventh. Sage McMinn added two hits in the game and a stolen base. Richardson and Gavin Noreus each had a hit in the game as well.
On the mound, Josh Dima got the start and went 5.1 innings and struck out three batters. Adam Galdoni came in for him and closed out the sixth inning. He didn't give up a hit and struck out two. Calan Kujawa finished the game where he also struck out three.
Game Four | Quincy 17, McKendree 4
Ben Draeger (W:2-2), Jorden Eaton (L:0-1)
In the final game of the series, the Bearcats were held to just four runs and eight hits in the game.
Offensively, Bittle, Deaver, and Sherman led the team, each having two hits in the game. McMinn also had a hit and worked two walks to get on the base pads. Garcia earned a hit as well.
The McKendree pitching staff combined for five strikeouts in the game.
Next Up
McKendree will be taking the short ride over to UMSL for a conference series at the UMSL Baseball Field. The first game will start on Friday, April 10th with a first pitch set at 2:00 p.m. Then there will be a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11th starting at 12:00 p.m. They will close out the series on Sunday, April 12th also at 12:00 p.m.
