Gleckler Fires First GWG, Cormier Tally First Goal of Fall to Lift Women's Soccer (RV) over Saints

Gleckler assists on first, score game-winner while Cormier fired first of the day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. | Lonnie Folks Field - McKendree University women's soccer (RV) (8-1-0, 4-1-0 GLVC) captured another GLVC road win with its Rochester, Illinois-trio of senior defender Zoe Cormier, senior midfielder Maggie Gleckler, and junior goalkeeper Alyse Day commanding the result for the Bearcats, a 2-1 win over Maryville. The Rochester, Illinois-triad led the attack and defense with Gleckler firing the game-winner in the closing minutes and Cormier scoring the first of the day, while Day added another win in net behind crucial saves throughout the contest. McKendree gets back to Leemon Field for its next game on Wednesday, September 23, at 5:00PM against the Greyhounds of Indianapolis.

The Bearcats entered Saturday morning looking to grab another strong win, this time against the Saints across the St. Louis metro. McKendree went to bat early with four first half shots, including three on-frame plus three corner kicks. In the 15th minute, the Bearcats struck with a Cormier header finding the back of the net off a Gleckler corner kick, making it a 1-0 contest. McKendree held its 1-0 leading at the half.

Maryville knotted the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute as the Saints pushed back in the latter 45 minutes of action. McKendree found its stride late in the game, earning multiple chances and sending more off the crossbar. In the 89th minute, a failed clearance effort by the Saints gave the Bearcats a penalty kick attempt with Gleckler stepping up. The senior midfielder fired away and found the back of the net for the game winning score.

McKendree held on for the 2-1 victory as Day grabbed a pair of saves for another win in goal.
