LEBANON, Ill. -- The McKendree women's volleyball team hits the road for their second weekend in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play, facing University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. and Quincy University on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m.
The Bearcats are coming off a competitive weekend after facing losses from Drury and Southwest Baptist and are looking to make an early statement in the conference. After this past weekend, setter Madison Wojdyla sits fifth in the conference for service aces, averaging 0.46 per set. McKendree currently averages 14.40 points per set and totaled 70 kills after their last two matches. Freshman outside hitter Reece Distler tallied 24 digs and 18 kills this past weekend. Libero Bianca Galaviz and setter Peyton Uptgraft totaled double digits in digs with 16 and 11, respectively.
UIS previously had a similar non-conference play schedule as McKendree, traveling to Kentucky Wesleyan and Missouri Western State University. After two losses against #24 University of Indianapolis and Lewis University, the Prairie Stars face the Bearcats for their first home game of the season. Pin hitters Makenna Cox and Kendal Johnston total 67 kills together last weekend, earning 34 and 33 kills each.
Quincy earned a similar record for their first two GLVC matches, losing to #24 University of Indianapolis and Lewis University. Offensively, pin hitters Selin Turgot and Aysem Kocaalp put up 23 kills each for the weekend, while Kocaalp led the team with 26 total digs. Quincy is currently eleventh in the GLVC standings with a 9-5 overall record.
Friday's match for the Bearcats will be at the UIS TRAC and will be streamed HERE on the GLVC Network. Saturday's match against Quincy is held at the Pepsi Arena, and can be streamed HERE.
