Men's Soccer Collects First Win of Season With Shutout Over Yellow Jackets

Bearcats tallying pair of goals in strong true road win

CEDARVILLE, Ohio | Yellow Jacket Soccer Complex - McKendree University men's soccer (1-2-0, 0-0-0 GLVC) closed out its non-conference schedule properly while getting on track with a 2-0 victory over Cedarville. The Bearcats got in the win column in the third and final con-conference bout before Great Lakes Valley Confernce play kicks off on September 5. McKendree was led by a goal from sophomore forward Fredrik Thulin and an insurance score by junior forward Morgan Dance. The Bearcats open GLVC action and their home slate with an 8:30PM match against the Hawks on Saturday night.

The third game of the non-conference slate saw the Bearcats go up against a common foe in Cedarville, and the match up went into a deadlock over the first 45 minutes. The first half saw just eight shots and three on-frame with one corner earned between the squads.

In the second half, the offense perked up for both teams with the Bearcats striking just over 10 minutes in as Thulin coraled a dish out by sophomore midfielder Dylan Gloviak. Thulin fired away and crossed it beyond the reach of the keeper for the lead and eventual game-winner. McKendree held its own for the remainder of the second half while finding a late insurance score as Dance broke away from the Yellow Jackets defensive line and goalkeeper to make the contest a 2-0 affair. Fifth year goalkeeper Filip Borka collected his first shutout for the Bearcats in 2026, grabbing three saves on the day.
