LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer (1-3-0, 0-1-0 GLVC) started off its conference season on Sunday night, hosting the Hawks of Quincy but fell in the match up, 2-0. The Bearcats were unable to get footing in the late night battle, being held scoreless for the first time since game one of the fall campaign. McKendree continues its conference slate with a pair of road match ups at Lincoln and Upper Iowa on September 9 and September 12.
McKendree was coming off a strong road victory at Cedarville, 2-0, with the bout versus Quincy marking its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Sunday. The Bearcats pushed early but the Hawks struck quickly with a goal in the sixth minute, taking a 1-0 lead. The two squads fought for a stretch in the opening half of action with the Hawks breaking through once more in the 25th minute to hold a 2-0 advantage at the half. McKendree managed just a trio of shots in the first half and one corner.
McKendree battled in the second with multiple close chances but was unable to muster a score to close the gap against Quincy. The Bearcats fired seven more shots in the latter half.
